Georgia town evacuated after chemical spill

Fire and hazmat crews have responded to the small town of Bartow in Jefferson County in east Georgia after a train carrying various chemicals derailed outside the town. When the train derailed, it caused some of the chemicals being hauled to spill into the surrounding area, including hydrochloric acid. Winter storm warning for northeast Georgia

Widespread cold rain spread across north Georgia early Saturday. And by early Saturday afternoon, snow started mixing with rain in parts of northeast Georgia. Another 15 counties in northeast Georgia, including a few metro Atlanta counties, have been added to Winter Weather Alerts. Arson of insurance candidate Beck’s property is reopened

The Carroll County District Attorney is reviewing a year-old arson of an Insurance Commissioner candidate’s property. A rental property belonging to Jim Beck was torched last March, says the local fire chief. But questions about the case lead to a request by the attorney general to have the arson re-examined.
