COVID cases surge 14.5 percent in Georgia

New coronavirus cases leaped in Georgia in the week ending Saturday, rising 14.5% as 44,260 cases were reported. The previous week had 38,669 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19. Georgia ranked No. 27 among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows.
