Black-owned businesses say they were left out of COVID funding

Black-owned businesses owners in Savannah are asking how $2 million in federal CARES Act aid was spent in a matter of hours — with only one Black-owned business getting help. The federal dollars were released in mid-August by the state for cities and counties to use in providing COVID-19 relief. The portion for small businesses was administered for the city by the non-profit Small Business Assistance Corporation, or SBAC.
