Consumer Reports‘ Nancy Metcalf has a column on how people with pre-existing medical conditions can find health insurance if they leave an employer benefits plan. Note that Nancy is addressing options for a person in California, but most of the alternatives would pertain to people in any state, including COBRA and the new state high-risk insurance pools.
