Amid a surge of COVID-19 cases in Clarke County, Georgia and the U.S. as a whole, Athens hospital leaders and Mayor Kelly Girtz participated in a community conversation Friday, providing updates on the pandemic in the community. Two themes emerged during the nearly hour-long discussion: the fact that Clarke County has seen an exponential increase in COVID-19 cases and a plea for more people to get vaccinated.
