Commentaries: The health care law

In late June, the Supreme Court is expected to hand down its historic decision on the constitutionality of the 2010 health reform law.

But whether this law stands or falls, the ruling won’t end the broader debate. Even as the high court heard sometimes dry legal arguments on the case late last month, demonstrators outside expressed loud, passionate feelings about it — pro and con.

This diversity of opinion on the Obama administration’s health overhaul is reflected in two new GHN Commentary pieces, submitted by two prominent Georgians.

Today’s Commentary is by Dr. Harry Heiman of Morehouse School of Medicine. He argues that the Affordable Care Act, while not perfect, “goes a long way toward improving our current system by expanding access, improving quality, controlling costs, and creating value; goals that most Americans agree will move us in the right direction.’’

Here’s a link to Heiman’s Commentary.

The second Commentary, voicing the opposite view of the law, will be posted Thursday.
