Dentist Rod Strickland became more judicious in the opioid prescriptions he wrote, and now he instructs patients to take ibuprofen, the active ingredient in Advil and Motrin, following most dental procedures. For dental surgery patients, Strickland still prescribes opioids, but new prescribing standards from the American Dental Association have reduced the recommended dosage and the number of days of opioids.
